What a difference a week makes! It always feels like spring has truly arrived when there are Orange Tips on the wing. This male was taking advantage of the Alkanet which has suddenly burst into flower. Having been away for a week, the change in the flowers is noticeable. The areas we have sown with wild flower seed are sprouting growth and the existing wild flowers have also begun to show.
Cowslips in flower and Yellow Rattle poking through. We also have lovely patches of Bird’s Foot Trefoil.
We only hold regular work parties over the autumn/winter seasons to avoid disturbance of nesting birds. However, in response to requests from a couple of our volunteers, we have arranged an additional work party this Friday (27 April) meeting in Roman Road, alongside the Crematorium wall at 10 am. Our focus will be litter picking along the Scarlet Tiger bank and weeding. At the same time it gives everyone the opportunity to see the caterpillars – 17 counted at the weekend.
